Q: What are the infrastructure requirements?

A: Welcome to the MODL class setup checklist. Before your students attend their first MODL class, please make sure they follow the steps below to get started.

STEP 1: General checks

  • Windows 2000, XP or Vista required
  • Other operating systems are not supported. If you are using Windows Vista, open Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Security tab > Trusted Sites > Sites > un-check, Require server authentication (https)… > type, *.toolwire.com > Add.
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater required
  • Other browsers are not supported.
  • Disable all pop-up blockers
  • Some pop-up blockers can cause problems when accessing MODL resources. Disabling them ensures you will have a trouble free experience.

STEP 2: Prepare for Virtual Classrooms

  • Verify the latest LiveMeeting client is installed – The Microsoft LiveMeeting client is required to access your Virtual Classrooms through the Internet.

STEP 3: Prepare for E-Learning

  • Activate your E-Learning – If you haven’t done so already, you must first redeem your Microsoft E-Learning Access Key you received in your student packet. This process authenticates your E-Learning license to your Microsoft Passport account. You only need to redeem your access key once. Then, you can proceed to your specific E-Learning lessons.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader – Some MODL documentation may be in .PDF format.

STEP 4: Prepare for Scenarios

  • Install the Citrix ICA client – The Citrix ICA client is required to access our Windows Server through the Internet.
  • Verify Flash 8 or higher is installed – If you don’t have Flash 8 installed, you will need to upgrade your Flash player to version 8 or higher.
  • Activate your Scenarios – Register with Toolwire and activate your Scenarios. Once logged in, if you have no active Scenarios, your home page will contain a “click the activate Scenarios” link. Enter your Scenario Access Code to start your subscription. Your Scenario Access Code should be in your student packet.

STEP 5: Prepare for Assessments

  • Microsoft Excel required – Ensure you have Microsoft Excel 2000 or greater installed.

Q: How quickly can we get started with MODL?

A: Once your application is approved and your MCTs are authorized you can begin to offer classes immediately. This process typically takes on average 30 days. Visit https://partner.microsoft.com/global/program/competencies/40030028 to obtain a business application; or download directly from us … MODL Business Application.

Q: Do I have to deliver MODL in 5 Weeks?

A: MODL scheduling is very flexible. You can teach a 40-hour MODL course in 5 Days, 5 Weeks, or anything in between. MODL involves the completion of 40 hours in total time, but only 20 hours of actual MCT instruction. The remaining 20 hours is self –paced with scenarios and hands-on labs. This format allows for flexibility to offer the course in a manner that best fit the needs of the student participants as well as the resources of the CPLS. The choice is yours. To learn more about delivery options see “Delivery Best Practices” in the Deliver MODL section of this website.

Q: Who do we contact for MODL implementation questions?

A: There are several resources you may utilize. You can go to http://www.toolwire.com/modl for a full overview of implementation answers and best practices. You can also go to https://partner.microsoft.com/US/program/competencies/learningsolutions/40029098 or contact your TPAM for additional information.

Q: What resources from the product delivery side will be needed and what are the infrastructure requirements?

A: You will need to set up a web portal or use the Classroom-in-a-Box for students to log into, Live Meeting or other collaboration platform with similar functionality for the virtual classroom, a phone/conference bridge for each user, and PC’s with internet connectivity. Buying MODL kits is done with the same process and in the same easy manner as buying MOC.

Q: What is included in the MODL student kit?

A: Student workbook, e-learning voucher and Day in the Life scenario vouchers. Other components may be added on a course-by-course basis.

Q: Why do my instructors need additional training (re-authorization) in MODL?

A: MCTs need to gain experience and prove competency facilitating interactions and delivering training via a distance learning environment.

Q: Are there Any MODL MCTs Available?

A: There are 200 MODL Authorized MCTs available. More than half of them are independent consultants. You can locate authorized MCTs at www.distancelearningtrainers.com (coming soon).

MODL is another great resource for instructor-led training. Our students now have the option to be trained from the privacy of their own PC, learning from our same great instructors without ever stepping foot into a classroom!
