Step 3 focuses on the operational elements of delivering MODL. Primarily, you must build a “Virtual Classroom” and Class Portal. The Virtual Classroom is Live Meeting – so you will need Live Meeting licenses and Voice Conferencing (or you can use the FREE Voice over IP functionality built into LiveMeeting 2007). In addition, you will need a Class Portal. Fortunately, we have created one for you as a FREE “Class-in-a-Box”.

The MODL Class Portal provides a central “launching pad” for all MODL components, including: LiveMeeting links, class recordings, Scenarios, E-Learning access, assessments, and support. And that’s not all … this innovative teaching tool is an online schedule as well.

Check out the Portal home page illustration below. Each of the ten (10) modules in this 40-hour course is presented as a date link. In this case, each 4-hour module starts on a Tuesday or Thursday over 5 weeks. Of course, you can choose to deliver MODL over the period of 2 weeks, or even 5 days. It is completely up to you!

Once you click a particular module START DATE, the Portal responds with a Module-specific GEAR page. This detail page presents all of the links and resources necessary to complete the (G)ather, (E)xpand, (A)pply, and (R)eview assignments. Check out the GEAR page shown below.

First, in the (G)ATHER section, students will find the LiveMeeting link and dial-in information for audio conferencing. In addition, everything is recorded so students can review content they didn’t quite catch the first time. These recordings are also presented under the Gather section.

From the (E)XPAND perspective, students get access to E-Learning links and/or required reading assignments. In the (A)PPLY section, there is a link that automatically connects students to their hosted, “Day-in-the-Life” Scenarios. Finally, the (R)EVIEW assessments are presented at the bottom of the page.

To build your own branded Class Portal, you can use the FREE Toolwire MODL “Class-in-a-Box” kit. This is a pre-built MODL class implementation and delivery kit. Following is a detailed description of each component in the MODL “Class-in-a-Box”:

  • MODL Class Setup Playbook (.DOC) – a 5-page document describing all the steps necessary to ramp and deliver a MODL class, including how to create a portal. What it is used for: Step-by-step instructions to execute the 45-day MODL launch project plan.
  • MODL Welcome E-Mail (.DOC) – the 1st of three MODL student pre-class emails. What it is used for: Welcoming students three weeks before the MODL class begins.
  • MODL Reminder E-Mail (.DOC) – the 2nd of three MODL student pre-class emails. What it is used for: Reminding students of class start-up one week before the MODL class begins.
  • MODL Tech Support E-Mail (.DOC) – the 3rd of three MODL student pre-class emails. What it is used for: Providing support for students the day before the MODL class begins.
  • MODL 45-Day Launch Project Plan (.MPP) – a Microsoft Project plan to launch MODL classes from start to finish. What it is used for: Detailed, step-by-step tasks, resources and timelines necessary to move from MODL approval to class delivery.
  • MODL 2785 Portal Creator (.XLS) – an html-formatting Worksheet for automated portal creation (MODL 2785). What it is used for: To create a custom MODL 2785 class portal using custom inputs, including: number of days, MCT details, live meeting details, etc. Refer to the illustration below for a snapshot of the MODL 2785 Portal Creator input screen.
  • MODL 2273 Portal Creator (.XLS) – an html-formatting Worksheet for automated portal creation (MODL 2273). What it is used for: To create a custom MODL 2273 class portal using custom inputs, including: number of days, MCT details, live meeting details, etc.
  • MODL 2273 Student Information (.XLS) – a MODL 2273 student tracking spreadsheet. What it is used for: To track the progress and contact details of all students in a given MODL 2273 class.
  • MODL MTM Survey (.DOC) – a word document version of the official Microsoft MTM (Metrics That Matter) MODL survey. What it is used for: To be imported into the Metrics That Matter platform by each CPLS for each MODL class.
